Senior Development Officer, Development Office

The Williams College Development Office is pleased to announce an opening for a Senior Development Officer reporting to the Director of Major Gifts. In December 2008, Williams College completed a five-year comprehensive campaign raising $500 million in new gifts and pledges. Major funding initiatives currently include financial aid, curriculum support (special programs), and two major building projects.

The primary focus of the Senior Development Officer (SDO) is to cultivate, solicit and steward donors of $100,000 or more. The SDO designs and executes strategies to move assigned prospects through the gift cycle and conducts meaningful stewardship of existing donors on an ongoing basis. S/he will be responsible for the western United States region with a large focus on California. We seek an energetic and enthusiastic professional with an appreciation for a devoted alumni and parent community of a small liberal arts institution.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree; a minimum of four years of progressive nonprofit fund-raising experience, preferably in higher or secondary education; or related experience in law, communications, finance or sales. Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including Excel and expertise in database management and record keeping are essential. Significant travel and some evening and weekend responsibilities are required. Direct experience soliciting, negotiating and closing major gifts; comprehensive campaign experience; and a record of successful collaboration with sophisticated volunteers and senior administration are preferred. Review of resumes will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Job Group 2-B.
