Eligibility and Credited Service
All employees other than students are eligible to participate in the Plan. Participation begins immediately following the one-year anniversary of an employee's date of hire if he or she worked at least 1,000 hours during that period. (Faculty who teach at least half-time are deemed to satisfy the 1,000-hour requirement.)* Otherwise, participation begins on the January 1 following any calendar year in which an employee satisfies the 1,000 hours requirement.
Even before an employee becomes a participant, he or she is eligible to make contributions to the plan (but is not eligible for college contributions until participation begins).
*In general, the time worked for other educational institutions counts towards satisfying the one-year requirement. Please contact the Benefits Office if you have any questions about your eligibility
