New Employee Orientation

Providing new employees with the tools and information needed to do their jobs well, and articulating expectations during their first few months is extremely important in establishing a foundation from which employees can be successful. The Human Resources Orientation Program is a three-part program designed to provide information important for the new employee as an individual and as someone entering a new work environment.

The initial orientation occurs during the first three days of employment at which time employees learn about and enroll in their benefits, complete the necessary payroll forms, and receive their employee ID card and parking permit.

Phase two is the supervisor's "Employee Orientation Checklist (PDF)," which covers the first six-month period. Human Resources has developed this checklist to assist supervisors and managers in bringing a new employee on board. It facilitates an effective, supportive and productive relationship between supervisor and employee and should be reviewed and completed at various stages within the first six months of employment. Upon completion, it is returned to Human Resources where it will be retained in the employee's file.

Finally, phase three is an annual group orientation program. This is a program to which employees are invited for a morning to learn about Williams as an employer and an educational institution.
