Faculty Offices
Private office space will be provided for all full-time faculty. This guarantee cannot be extended to part-time faculty, though they will be assigned shared office space at the very least. It is not, however, always possible to provide office space for Winter Study Program adjunct faculty. (On office space for retired faculty, see Retired Faculty).
Faculty members outside the Division III departments and Psychology are assigned offices in the North and South academic buildings. These office assignments are made by the Administrative Coordinator of Faculty Affairs. Assignments in the other buildings are made by the department chairs.
Full-time faculty retain their offices from year to year, but faculty on leave and not in residence must make their offices available for use by other faculty members. Tenured members are asked to clear out their desks and to provide sufficient file and bookshelf space to accommodate a visiting faculty member. Non-tenured faculty on leave are asked to vacate their offices. The College attempts to provide storage for the length of the leave. Tenured faculty members may return to the office they occupied prior to their leave, if they so wish. A non-tenured member is returned to the pool of those seeking office assignments. The normal date for vacating offices is 1 January for faculty terminating or going on leave after the fall semester and 1 July for those terminating or going on leave after spring semester. The Administrative Coordinator of Faculty Affairs will attempt to arrange for brief extensions beyond those dates for faculty who wish to remain longer.
Faculty who would prefer an office other than the one they occupy are afforded the opportunity to express a preference to move in the spring, before new and returning faculty receive their office assignments for the following year.
