Bereavement Leave

Employees in regular or term positions working at least half-time are eligible for bereavement leave.

Supervisors may grant up to three days paid leave for a death in the immediate family. "Immediate family" is defined as the employee's spouse or partner, parent or step-parent, child, or sibling, grandparents, parents-in-law, or others residing with the employee. Up to two days paid leave may be granted for the death of a sibling-in-law, aunt or uncle of the employee.

Employees may, with their supervisors' approval, use additional paid leave as necessary to supplement bereavement leave. The Director of Human Resources must approve requests for additional bereavement leave.
