Academic Career Network

The Academic Career Network offers spouses and partners of Williams College faculty and administrative staff web-based access to faculty, research, and administrative openings at a cluster of nearby institutions, as well as the ability to post credentials in a searchable database accessible to prospective employers at member schools. The Network also offers career development seminars and special events designed to facilitate the job search process.

History

ACN was initiated by the Five Colleges, Inc. (a consortium of Amherst, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, and UMASS-Amherst) in the Fall of 2003 as a response to the specific challenges inherent in the recruitment and retention of dual-academic career couples. Funded by seed money from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and participating institutions, ACN links member institutions in western New England and eastern upstate New York and provides a coordinated effort of career services for spouses and partners.

Participating Institutions

Current members of ACN include The Five Colleges, as well as Bard and Simons Rock College, Colby Sawyer, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Hamilton, Middlebury, Skidmore, Trinity, Union, and Vassar, and Williams Colleges, Greenfield Community College, Wesleyan University, and the University of Connecticut.

Registration

ACN is available to spouses and partners of Williams College faculty and administrative staff. To access the full range of services offered through ACN, individuals must be nominated by either the College Spouse/Partner Employment Counselor or the Assistant Dean of Faculty. Contact Jill.B.Strawbridge@williams.edu or John.P.Gerry@williams.edu for more information.
