  • Doggy don’t bag stations: Steve suggested three stations at Cole Field which was OK’d. Committee decided on supplies of individual bags rather than tear-off rolls @ $42 per case of 800.
  • Mechanical room lights at CTD: work order is in.
  • Pete has retired. Pete Mazzacco Jr. will replace Sr.

New Business

There were 6 incident reports submitted to the committee this month:

  1. A Hopkins Forest research assistant found two attached ticks which were removed. Recommended corrective action [RCA]: use repellant, check daily for ticks.
  2. A Dining Services employee burned finger while throwing away a used Sterno can. Did not check to see if can was still hot. RCA: wear oven mitts when handling, recover can to extinguish fire. Procedures reviewed with employee.
  3. A student trainer drove golf cart into a table which then hit an employee leaving a deep thigh bruise. RCA: implement student driving test, require valid driver’s license.
  4. A custodial staff employee, while washing windows at West College from the outside on second floor, suffered scraped shins. RCA: use kneepads.
  5. A Theatre Department employee fell down a flight of stairs. RCA: slow down.
  6. A Paresky mail room employee smashed fingers between motorized cart and the wall. RCA: use slower speed to maintain control and go down the ramp forward.

Additional New Business

  • The 2007 Wellness Fair will be October 25 from 11 AM to 2 PM.
  • Pat reported that in the parking lot behind Mears a large tree blocks the view of traffic for those exiting the lot. The trees have been removed.
  • Pat reported an employee’s concern about snow and ice falling from Mears roof during the upcoming winter. Joe responded that between signage and work on the roof about as much has been done as can be.
  • Cheryl reported questions from people regarding whether or not there would be a body fat percentage gauge at the Wellness Fair. Kris responded that all but the emersion tests are too inaccurate to bother with.
  • Cheryl reported concerns about a couple of the network and systems workers who are often working off of ladders in awkward positions. Joe responded that Williams employees are never expected to do dangerous work and he wants to meet with people at OIT and clarify the situation.
  • Lisa reported that Dining Services is switching to smaller trays for use at large parties which will weigh less and also fit in the carts with locking wheels.
  • Lisa reported that Dining Services is going through stock rooms and relocating heavier items to lower shelves.
  • Lisa reported that Dining Services is testing thermal gloves for use in kitchens.
  • Steve reported some incidents with unleashed dogs. There was discussion about how best to address this problem, especially with non-employees who walk their dogs on college property. If there is an incident, Campus Security should be contacted immediately.
