Williams College Employee Safety Committee Meeting

Tuesday, May 16, 2006 @ The Faculty House

Attending: George Aitken, Cheryl Brewer, Bob Briggs, Gail Burda, Cosmo Catalano, Adriana Cozzolino, Scott Duncan, Gary Lohnes, Kris Maloney, Pat Mancuso, Pete Mazzacco, Joe Moran, Norm Parker, Jay Racela, Dennis Richard

Absent: Lisa Briggs, Michael Chapman

Old Business:

  • JRC attic: Joe checked on amount of stuff in attic (too much) and will investigate storage issue after commencement.
  • Computer recycling: Cheryl reported it is a go and has been publicized around campus.
  • AED in theatre: Cos reported that there will be a training session for summer theatre staff and again suggested that the CTD should have a unit year round. Adriana said it was likely she could find the money.
  • CPR classes: Bob reported that there would be a class offering after commencement and that many recertifications were due next fall.

New Business:
Incident Reports submitted to the committee this month:

  1. A grounds worker suffered a strained back while carrying a xylophone with a student. The student dropped his end straining the employee’s back. There was no recommended corrective action (RCA).
  2. A provost office employee fell on the stairs and suffered a cut knee. No RCA.
  3. An athletic department coach suffered an injured right elbow: while pitching for batting practice he was hit by a struck ball. RCA: Try to stay behind pitching shield.
  4. A grounds worker fell of a ladder and suffered a twisted knee. RCA: be more careful.

Additional New Business:

  • Scott reported that the recycling crew had expressed concerns about the door to the Agway barn being difficult to operate. Joe responded that a work order should be filed. If that didn’t solve the problem, then he should be notified.

Dining Services Safety Committee:

  • No new business.

Next meeting: Tuesday June 20, noon @ (location tba)
