Joe added that the demo involves a video, discussion and practice discharge of various types of extinguishers.
- Cars speeding on Chapin Drive: Cheryl reported committee members and members of the college community in general are encouraged to report license plate numbers of speeders to security.
- Parking garage: Cosmo reported that there has been plenty of space available to park. Kim suggested that speed limit signs be posted in the garage.
- Potential tripping hazards on walk from parking garage to Greylock: Joe reported that he examined the walkway and found no obvious tripping hazards, though the walkway is rough. He also pointed out there is a handrail.
- Expiration of terms: Cheryl's term is expiring, but she may stay on due to appropriateness of her position, however she will not continue as chair of the Committee. Cos' term is expiring, but he has agreed to stay on. Gary's term is also expiring, but he will be asked to stay on also.
New Business:
Accident Reports submitted to the committee this month:
- An employee suffered a strained wrist. Follow up: true accident.
- A Dinning Services employee at an outside function tripped on a curb. Follow up: true accident.
Additional New Business:
- Smoking policy: Cheryl reported that there had been numerous infractions of the policy, mostly concerning people smoking too close to the building. She further reported that Dinny had addressed the issue directly as well as had policy signs posted and the situation had improved. Joe praised Dinny's actions and noted that direct action by supervisors was likely the best way to handle smoking policy infractions. Adriana commented that at Hopkins, people smoke too close to the building and the butts are an eyesore. She is recommending posting no smoking signs and setting up designated smoking areas.
- The Committee needs a new chairperson which will be decided at the next meeting.
- Judi reported that a custodian at Mark Hopkins was concerned with the safety of some long extension cords in several rooms.
- Judi also reported that at 63 Park the wooden walk at the main door is pitched so that water collects in front of the door. Joe said that weep holes would be drilled as a temporary solution while a more permanent solution is decided upon.
Dining Services Safety Committee:
