New Business:
Incident Reports submitted to the committee this month:

  1. Dining Services employee burned back of fingers while lifting top off a kettle. It was determined that the top was lifted incorrectly and the employee was reminded about proper pot top removal.
  2. A Dining Services chef cut finger while cutting cabbage. Corrective action: employee advised to be more careful.
  3. A Dining Services employee fell on back and hit head in parking garage. Corrective action: notified Facilities of icy conditions.
  4. A Facilities employee, while trying to replace pin holding plow on tractor, injured neck and back. Corrective action: employee advised to use pry bar in the future.
  5. A Dining Services cook’s assistant cut finger while cutting an onion. Causes were determined to be (first) the knife was not the usual knife the employee used and (second) the skin of the onion slipped causing the knife to slip. Preventive action: employee advised to use familiar knife and watch for loose onion skin.
  6. A Dining Services prep server suffered abdominal muscle strain while lifting a milk dispenser. Employee advised to use caution when lifting.
  7. A Dining Services cook’s assistant suffered a pull/spasm in left rib area after lifting a pot (25 lb) of sauce onto stove. The weight of pot was within the range employee usually lifts.
  8. A Dining Services employee suffered a strained right wrist while lifting a case of soda from lower cabinet to cart. Employee maintained that it was same procedure as done before with no consequences, but cautioned nonetheless about proper lifting techniques.
  9. An OIT tech suffered pain in shoulder and neck while lifting heavy monitor. Preventive action: employee warned not to do that.

Additional New Business:

  • Scott reported that the custodial team at Prospect was concerned about dripping water freezing on the walkway. Joe will follow up.

Dining Services Safety Committee:

  • No new business.

Next meeting: Tuesday March 14, noon @ The Faculty House
