Williams College Employee Safety Committee Meeting

Old Business:
- The loading dock at Paresky is being looked at.
- The temperature in Paresky dishroom is being monitored.
- The refrigeration alarms in Paresky are being looked at.
- Ice and snow over Dodd kitchen entrance is now a non-problem. May be addressed later.
- In general, ice and snow problems should be fine until next fall.
New Business:
Incident Reports submitted to the committee this month:
- A Facilities employee injured while getting into van, suffered a pulled back. No recommended corrective action (RCA).
- A Facilities employee fell on left wrist and shoulder while walking on an icy sidewalk. RCA: sand sidewalk.
- A Dining Services employee tripped on steps on west side of Paresky bruising both knees. Joe: reflective strips have been put on the stairs.
- A facilities employee sprained wrist after falling backward out of van. Hand slipped off railing while taking out tools. No RCA.
- A Dining Services employee cut left thumb tip while cutting pizza. Employee turned to talk with someone while cutting. RCA: pay attention and wear protective glove.
- An employee suffered back strain after falling on back while doing inspection of roof. RCA: don’t step out on snow-covered roof unless necessary.
- A Dining Services employee cut first finger of left hand. While washing pots, cut finger on sink caddy. RCA: work order put in to have edge of sink caddy filed smooth.
- A Facilities employee fell on stairs at Fitch House bruising back. RCA: Joe is checking on stairs.
Additional New Business:
- Steve Rondeau will be the new chair of the Committee.
- Scott said the custodians have to climb over the Morgan east and west stairwell railings on the basement level in order to clean and it could be hazardous. Joe will check on it.
- Lisa reported that the outlets in the mailroom need to be changed because of extension cord hazards. Joe will check on it.
- Cheryl reported that IT will be doing computer ONLY recycling again this spring at the Agway barn from May 16 through June 1 between noon and 3:30. Students and employees must show an ID. Information will be in the daily announcements.
- Pat reported a complaint that construction tape at the Dodd House work area was too close to the sidewalk. Joe asked her to get more specific information and then he would check on it.
- Pat reported complaints about the screen door on the front of Mears, that the handle is too close to the jamb. Joe said she should file a work order when it is installed this spring.
- Pat reported complaints about not being able to drive down to the second level at the parking garage, especially that there was no signage to that effect at entrance to upper level. Joe said he puts information on status of parking garage in daily messages.
