- Martha distributed minutes from the June and August meetings, a draft of the Telecommuting Policy, and a list of Staff Council membership. The Staff Council's two new members were acknowledged: Jenny Dewar and Maggie Driscoll.
- A new agenda item was presented concerning Mountain Day. The idea of fostering a community relationship and creating a sense of community was extended in the president's message concerning Mountain Day but only faculty and students can participate in the event. Staff members felt the message was not genuine if all community members could not take part in the event.
- Ed Epping, guest speaker, explained the background and purpose of "Claiming Williams" initiative. "Claiming Williams" evolved from a student action group, "Stand with Us", which was organized in response to student bias incidents last winter. The student organization identified areas of concern and presented the idea of examining race, privilege, and class on campus. Professor Epping spoke in detail about "Claiming Williams" and ways to create a truly campus community event. It will be held on February 5th. A short discussion followed Professor Eppings remarks.
- Time did not allow for discussion of the remaining agenda items. They were tabled until the next meeting.
