Contextless Login -
Without contextless login one must either login with their full username.context or specify context in the login window drop-down box. The latter is only populated with a context list based on previous logins. For example, if a .guest had not used that workstation there would not be a .guest option in the drop-down box. Setting contextless login, therefore, is a beneficial setting for lab PCs.
There are two methods of setting it and both are performed on the client- DSCAT Contextless Login and LDAP Contextless Login. We once used DSCAT in the labs, but as of recent it has not been working on my PC images. We are now using the LDAP variant and it works flawlessly.

To set DSCAT Contextless Login -
Right click on the red "N" on the taskbar.
Choose Novell Client Properties.
Set Search Time out to 8 seconds.
Type "williams" in the Tree space.
Type .usrcat.williams" in the Catalog space.
Select Add. Choose OK and OK again.

To set LDAP Contextless Login -
Right click on the red "N" on the taskbar.
Choose Novell Client Properties.
Check Enable LDAP Contextless Login.
Check Enable LDAP Contextless Search Scope.
Type "WILLIAMS" in the Tree space.
Type "nds1.williams.edu" in the Servers space.
Type "nds2.williams.edu" in the Servers space.
To test either -
Reboot.
Attempt a login with the username "psmetest." This account exists in three contexts and should cause the client to query and then display a choice as to which account you wish to login with. Alternatively, choose the Advanced button, select a context different than your's, type in your username and then choose the password field. You should see the context change to match that of your account's.
