Change your Windows password to match your Netware password after a successful login

Your local Windows Workstation password (Windows 2000 and XP users) is NOT changed when you use the web based password changer.

If you are not sure what your Windows Workstation password is then it was probably synched with the Netware password.

When the passwords are the same the computer verifies both Netware and the Windows Workstation at the same time so you don't see the Workstation login window.

When they are not the same, which is the case just after you change your Netware / Unix password on the go/myaccount site, the Windows Workstation login will pop up.

IMPORTANT: Do not change the username that automatically appears when you see the workstation login screen, just try your previous Netware password to get in. It can then be re-synched. The quickest method to re-sync the workstation password and the Netware password is to first enter your old password in the field (as mentioned above), then place a check mark in the tiny box that says: Change my workstation password after successful login.

Changing a Windows Workstation Password

Windows XP:

1. Click on START > Control Panel

2. Click on the User Accounts Icon

3. Click on your Windows account, under heading 'pick an account to change'

Note: Most faculty and staff will be: Williams user
Staff working in Mears/Vogt would be: MearsUser1

4. Click on Change my password

5. In the appropriate fields enter:

  • Your current Windows password
  • Your new password
  • Confirm your new password

Important: If you have just changed your Netware password, your current Windows password will probably be the same as your old Netware password.

You will want to make your new Windows password the same as the new Netware password since it will then allow you to log into your Windows account automatically after the Netware log in, by-passing the Workstation login screen.

6. The Password Hint is optional

7. Click on Change Password button

Note: If you change your Windows workstation password to match your new Netware password, then it will allow you to log into your Windows account automatically after the Netware log in.

Mac OSX

1. Open the System Preferences

2. Click the Accounts button.

3. Click the change password button.
