Wireless Application Usage

The major change you will notice when using the Williams Wireless Network is that certain applications that worked over the wired network may not work over the wireless network. Since wireless networks are by nature insecure (information is passed through the air and thus is susceptible to being captured), OIT requires wireless users to use only secure applications - those that do not send passwords in clear-text. This page will help you make the switch to using secure applications. Don't worry - all of these changes or new programs will work perfectly (and be more secure!) on the wired network as well.

Novell Netware for Windows

It is fairly easy to get Novell Netware to work over wireless. The Clientless Netware capabilities available in new versions of Netware will make this even easier. For now, you can get your existing Novell client to work with a few changes to your settings and a restart.

Please keep in mind that before attempting to login to the netware server, you must be logged into the bluesocket server.

  1. Right click on the red N in the System Tray in the lower right corner of your screen (shown in red).
  2. Select Novell Client Properties from the menu that appears.
