K n o w n I s s u e s (v6.x) -

P - My scheduled scan cannot be changed and I am uncertain as to whether or not it is even running.
S - The default setting is to scan every Monday through Friday at 12:00 AM. This cannot be changed on the client and is set on the central update server (CID). Each time Sophos updates it recreates the scheduled task so in the application (summary button) or XP Task Scheduler it may appear as if it has not previously run. The Windows Vista task scheduler will show the history of the task running. An accurate date/time stamped log entry with scan activity is available in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\logs". One can also make their own scheduled scan by opening Sophos Anti-Virus, choosing "Setup a new scan", selecting the volume to scan (like c:), configuring the scan and then scheduling the scan to run. This scheduled scan entry will run in addition to the default and will not be removed by updates.

P - When attemting to launch Sophos AntiVirus on Windows you receive the error message, "You do not have sufficient privileges to run the Sophos Anti-Virus main application." The message continues to suggest that, "You (your user account), are not a member of any of the Sophos groups. To launch this application, you must be a member of the SophosAdministrator, SophosPowerUser or SophosUserGroup. Please contact your administrator."

Some potential causes for this are outlined by the Sophos Knowledge Base

S-1 - First one should make certain that their user account is a member of at least one of the Sophos groups listed above. If your user account is not a member of one of these groups then you should add your account. Go to the Start Menu, right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Navigate to the Users section, double-click on your account name and check the Member Of tab. Use the Add option if your account is not a member of a corresponding Sophos group.

S-2 - More often than not the solution to this problem involves restoring default Windows registry permissions. If it is already a member then use regedit.exe to navigate to and check/fix the permissions on the following 3 registry Keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Typelib.

Some software developers write applications that change the default permissions to the Classes portion of the registry. For some odd reason, they replace the specified permissions as seen below. If System and Administrators are not specified as having Full Control then Sophos will most certainly not funtction properly. Right click on Interface and choose Permissions. Use the Add, then Advanced and then Find buttons to add the System and Administrators group. Give them Full Control. If it doesn't show-up on its own, add Users group and give them just Read. Now repeat the same steps on Typelib.

P - Sophos v6 is not removing Sophos v4 and I do not know how to manually.
S - The folks at Sophos authored this batch for this rare occasion. Run it, reboot and install Sophos v6.
