Why change?
In an effort to make more efficient use of the Jesup Maindesk color printer and its related paper and toner consumables, the Office for Information Technology has implemented a system which requires people to release their print jobs personally from a dedicated workstation adjacent to the printer.
How will this be accomplished?
A service named PCounter makes it possible for users to be accountable for their color printing needs. Print jobs sent to lw-jesup-maindesk-color will now require you to visit the printer to release your print request. This should decrease the waste from unintended duplicate and abandoned printing. This service will also provide OIT with a better understanding of the levels of demand for printing.
How do I use PCounter?
To release your print job from PCounter you must provide your NetWare username and password to the adjacent workstation. This requires that you send your print jobs from a computer that recognizes the workstation user as your network username.
Do I need to make a change?
There are no additional changes required for those printing from an XP/Mac OS X computer lab or a Windows 2000/XP PC with NetWare client.
Who is affected?
Those using OIT deployed or personal Mac OS X computers who want to print to the Jesup Maindesk color printer will need to do so from an account that has a name identical to their NetWare username. PCounter will only allow print jobs to be released by users who can login to the adjacent print control workstation.
How do I make my Mac OS X account name the same as my NetWare username?
