How do I make my Mac OS X account name the same as my NetWare username?
Max OS X has two names for each account - a long name and a short name. You need to change the shortname. For example, Administrator could be your account's longname and its shortname could be admin. To print to the color printer, PCounter would have to see a print request from a short username that reflects your actual network username. If your NetWare username is tsmith then that should become your shortname on OS X.
Fortunately, there is an application that you can run which permits renaming the shortname of an OS X account. This application, however, needs to be run from a user account other than the one that is changing!
- If you don't already have a different user account that is an Admin level you will need to create an additional user account on your Mac. Skip to step 2 if you have another Admin account already.
- From Apple Menu, open System Preferences and open the Accounts item
- Click on the "+" under "Login Options" to add an additional account.
- Name the account temp, with shortname temp, use password for password and type it again. This account will be deleted when you are done.
- Click on the Security tab and check the "Allow user to administer this computer."

- You should now have seen the area above your user picture change from "Standard" to "Other Accounts."
- From the Apple Menu log out and login with your newly created admin account or another Admin
- Download "ChangeShortName"
- If you do not see a red window with 3 icons in it you will need to double-click the DMG file and open "ChangeShortName v1.1.3" disk

- Double click ChangeShortNameHelper in red background window

- Use drop down arrow to find and select account name to change (this is your primary use account). do not choose an account with "Logged In!" next to it
- Enter your EXACT NetWare username next to New Short Name (no need for .student, .faculty or .staff)
- Enter your desired New Long Name (First Last)
- Click "Run Script" button and respond with Continue button when prompted
- Click in newly opened Terminal window and review account rename
- If correct, type "yes" and hit [return] OR
- If not, type "no" and [return], quit Terminal and start over by reopening ChangeShortNameHelper (step 5)

- You will now need to type the password that you just used to log in with. Type it and hit [return]
- You should now see ChangeShortName "is now finished"
- Quit out of Terminal and Log Off this account
- Login with your newly renamed account
- Make sure you recognize the desktop and documents to ensure this is your regular account
- Your Home directory in the Users folder is now also named after your NetWare username. This is your new OS X short username.
- Now it is time to delete that one-time use account that you created. If you didn't have to create an additional account then skip to step 23
- Go to Apple Menu and open System Preferences
- Open the Accounts item and select the temp account that you created earlier
- Click the minus button below "Login Options"
- Now select "Delete Immediately" on the next window

- Quit System Preferences
- Now you will add the Color Printer
- Open Printer Setup Utility in Utilities folder located in Applications folder
- Choose "IP Printing"
- Make Printer Type LPD/LPR
- pcounter.williams.edu for Printer Address
- lw-jesup-maindesk-color for Queue Name
- Choose HP for Printer Model, scroll down to HP Color LaserJet 4600 and hit "add"
- If exists, delete old Jesup color printer
