Q - What platforms does Sophos AV run on?
A - Sophos AV can operate on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista, Mac OS X 10.2+, Linux and NetWare. Williams provides an installer and updates for Sophos AV on Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista and Mac OS X. Williams uses Sophos on its Novell NetWare file/print servers and to scan mail with SAVI for PMDF. Sophos development and support for Mac OS 8/9 was discontinued in Febrary 2007.
Q - What should I do if Sophos fails to install?
A - There are a few different known causes for failed Sophos installations. The most common are the presence of a virus or another anti-virus application. Many viruses will intentionally prevent the installation of anti-virus applications. If your PC is infected, you must first remove the virus either manually or with tools. If you are unsure as to how this is done you best contact OIT Desktop Support for assistance in the removal of the virus. Additionally, make absolutely certain no other anti-virus software is installed and running. On Windows, use the Control Panel item Add/Remove programs to identify and remove other anti-virus products prior to installing Sophos AV. If you are still having difficulty, please contact OIT Support.
