How to clear a CUPS Queue

  • Open the CUPS interface https://print.williams.edu:631/
  • Macs print to the Mac CUPS server and its interface can be checked at https://print-mac.williams.edu:631/
  • Accept the Certificate messages by clicking "OK".
  • Click on the "Jobs" tab.
  • Authenticate by providing your supplied CUPS username and password. The username will be the same as the one you use for Mail, but the password may be different.
  • You will now see all current print jobs for all campus CUPS print queues.
  • Hitting the F5 key will refresh the list such that active jobs will disappear as they print.
  • The name of the printer is displayed on the left hand side. If the list of jobs is daunting you can filter the list by searching on part of the printer name, like "schow" or "sawyer".
  • Jobs remaining that have been processing for a time longer than expected can be canceled by clicking the "Cancel Job" link. Older jobs will be toward the bottom of the page.
  • When the job is cleared you will see a page stating, "Job # has been canceled."
  • Clicking your web browser back button or keyboard backspace will return you to the list of jobs again.
  • Alternatively, clicking on the "Job # has been canceled" message will take you to the printer queue itself. From there you can "Cancel All Jobs" for that queue. This would only be necessary if there were many old jobs and clearing them one at a time through the Jobs tabs was overwhelming. When done you can return to the Jobs page by clicking on its tab.
  • The printers affected should now be power cycled.
